Our String Ensemble Conductor
Alexander Svensen enjoys an active career as a classical, jazz, and pop double bassist and educator. As principal bassist of the Norwalk Symphony and assistant principal bassist of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra (in MA), Alex maintains a busy and dynamic freelance career across the Northeastern United States. His playing has been hailed in the New Haven Register and the New York Times as "exemplary" and “honorable.” Alex has studied with world-renowned musicians at the Yale School of Music, Carnegie Mellon University, and SUNY at Fredonia, and has performed as principal, substitute principal, solo, and section double bassist with countless orchestras and chamber groups across the northeast and midwest.
As an educator, Alex has a Bachelor's degree in music education, gives workshops and master classes in public and private schools - including as the former music director of the Yale Tango Orchestra - and has maintained an active private teaching studio for over a decade. Alex lives in Madison.
